Sunday 3rd August 1997 was a memorable day in the Catholic Christian history of Bambili. On that day, His Grace Archbishop Paul Verdzekov of blessed memory solemnly announced the creation of a new parish in Bambili amidst thunderous applause from hundreds of Christian who had long wished for a parish of their own. The newly created parish carved out of Saint peter’s parish Bambui was placed under the patronage of Our Lady of Fatima with administration entrusted to the Priests and brothers of the Society of  Mary whose members are called Marist fathers. Rev. Fr. Robert (Bob) Barber of blessed memory was given the daunting task of setting up the infant parish as a pioneer parish priest.

 

Fr. Robert (Bob) Barber held this post for two years before passing the baton to Rev. Fr. Anaua Finua in 1999. The challenges of beginning something are usually enormous and range from human to infrastructural challenges. In the case in question, Rev. Fr. Robert Barber had to quickly acquire a place for parish personnel, and start a parish church building project among other things.
